CHAKRA MEDITATION

 

Chakra meditation is a unique form of relaxation that involves deep concentration. By achieving an uninterrupted level of focus, psychic energy is able to flow up through your body, energizing and reinvigorating all of your different chakras along the way.

Within our bodies there are focal points of energy that we use, whether consciously or unconsciously, to affect reality and allow us to fully experience and realize events that unfold before us. These focal points are called Chakras. Chakras are located in important parts of our body such as head or heart. Any organs within the area of these Chakras are used to control and are directly affected by the properties of that Chakra. There are seven Chakras located throughout the body . The seven major chakras are connected together by three major nadies (a network of psychic nerves or channels) which are parallel and near each other. The middle nadi is called *sushumna* and it has neutral characteristics.


The Major Chakras are situated at:
  1. Root Chakra: Base chakra (base of spine, between anus and genitals)
  2. Naval chakra (slightly below the belly button)
  3. Solar Plexus chakra (one hand-span above the belly button)
  4. Heart chakra (center of the chest)
  5. Throat chakra (base of throat, above where it joins the chest)
  6. Brow chakra (exact center of forehead)
  7. Crown chakra (whole top of head above the hairline)
The Root Chakra:

This Chakra is closely related to the body and our ability to master it. One’s health, constitution and security are linked to this Chakra. In addition, the realization of how our bodies connect to the material world is focused here.

Steps to Open Root Chakra

Let the tips of your thumb and index finger touch. Concentrate on the Root chakra at the spot in between the genitals and the anus. Chant the sound LAM.

The Naval Chakra

Located in the lower abdomen. This Chakra is associated with the acts of giving and receiving, and is tied into the more physical feelings of love, passion and sexuality. The feeling of pleasure is also linked with this Chakra, so one may feel focus and feedback in this Chakra during moments of harmony, generosity, group creativity and selflessness.

Steps to Open Naval Chakra:

Put your hands before your stomach, slightly below your solar plexus. Let the fingers join at the tops, all pointing away from you. Cross the thumbs. It is important to straighten the fingers. Concentrate on the Navel chakra located on the spine, a bit above the level of the navel. Chant the sound RAM.

The Solar Plexus Chakra

Located just above the navel and below the chest. This Chakra is a focus point for our force of will and our sense of transformation. Concentration and control of our personal energies originate from this point.

The Heart Chakra

Located at the center of the chest and is the focus for love and understanding. Feelings that stem from this love such as forgiveness, compassion, balance and harmony radiate from this point. This chakra governs your feelings, your emotional connections to others and to the universe, to life itself.

Steps to open Heart Chakra

Sit cross-legged. Let the tips of your index finger and thumb touch. Put your left hand on your left knee and your right hand in front of the lower part of your breast bone (so a bit above the solar plexus). Concentrate on the Heart chakra at the spine, level with the heart. Chant the sound YAM.

The Throat Chakra

Located in the throat area between one’s chin and the top of the sternum. This Chakra is linked to one’s powers of communication. Through this Chakra, one can realize truth and knowledge; honesty, kindness and wisdom and how these elements can be conveyed through thoughtful speech.

Steps to open Throat Chakra:

Cross your fingers on the inside of your hands, without the thumbs. Let the thumbs touch at the tops, and pull them slightly up. Concentrate on the Throat chakra at the base of the throat. Chant the sound HAM.

The Brow Chakra

Located in the forehead, right above our eyes. This is also known as the region of the "Third Eye" in Buddhist and other belief systems. This chakra is indigo and governs psychic vision and intuition. One can also focus their realization of their own soul, divine wisdom and peace of mind in this point.

The Crown Chakra

Located at the very top of the head. This Chakra is associated directly with dealings of the mind and spirit. This Chakra is deeply tied to the exploration of one’s consciousness and place in space and time. It governs your connection to the universe/God/Goddess/The Creator, etc... , your spirit and will, inspiration, divine wisdom… all the things that deal with the Higher Self are rooted in this Chakra.

Steps to Open Crown Chakra

Put your hands before your stomach. Let the ring fingers point up, touching at their tops. Cross the rest of your fingers, with the left thumb underneath the right. Concentrate on the Crown chakra at the top of your head. Chant the sound NG.

How to do Chakra Meditation:
  • It can be done sitting or lying
  • Adjust your body and close your eyes
  • Do not control your breath but relax it and slow it.
  • Spend few minutes in establishing a connection with the inhalation and exhalation of your breath.
  • Concentrate on the chakras, beginning with the root chakra, and moving progressively up, as you visualize psychic energy from the root chakra traveling up shushumna and vivifying each higher chakra.
  • At the end chant mantra OM atleast 3 times.
Performing Chakra Meditation for Begineers:

1) Begin by sitting or lying down in a comfortable position.

2) Turn your attention to one small part of your body such as the tip of your right index fingure. Focus on the feeling you have in that one small area. Allow awareness to spread to the entire finger, then the hand, arm, both arms, chest, torso, head, legs and feet,

3) Feel every subtle inner detail. Be careful not to try to absorb too much information. This meditative practice should be organic in its flow and should seamlessly spread throughout the body like a gentle wave. If you feel thoughts of stress or worry invading your circle of peace, go back to concentrating on that one tiny aspect of your body.

It is recommended that the Chakra Meditation, (or others like it) be performed daily just before going to sleep at night, and before arising in the morning, for 20-30 minutes at a time. Daily inner awareness and meditation compliment each others’ effectiveness, acting to improve health, reduce stress, increase psychic sensitivity, clarity and the capacity for love, manifest intelligence and wisdom.

Precautions
  • Never ever meditate on just one chakra without the guidance of qualified person.
  • Awakening of any chakra can also have side effects.
